Shelly Fryer Reflection
Shelly Fryer is a speaker, teacher, author, and advocate for children according to her website found here. She teaches in Oklahoma City at an elementary school called Positive Tomorrow's. This school is the only one in Oklahoma specifically designed for homeless children. I think this is very inspiring. Shelly has a passion teaching and after exploring her blog that is evident. Shelly is an inspiration to me and so many other educators. She has over 20 years of teaching experience.
I will I'll be reviewing her blog post titled 'Technology 101 Skills For Educators' which discusses the important factors necessary to prepare yourself to successfully use technology in the classroom. This article was very helpful and I highly recommend it if you are a new or old educator looking for helpful tips and new apps and resources to incorporate into your classroom. Shelly talks about the important factors of being successful in the classroom with iPads. One of the first things that stood out to me was understanding that students need an extra push to get the full potential out of the iPads. It is important for teachers to recommend educational apps and teach students how to use and find the resources on the iPads that can be beneficial to their education. In order to do this the teacher needs to be well educated on how to use the iPads and the resources they are telling students to use. This can be a learning process but the benefits are awesome. App literary is very important for teachers to have. Shelly does a great job of sharing how important she thinks technology is in the classroom. She incorporates it in so many of her lessons and daily life in the classroom. I think this is a great idea to start kids using technology early and everyday. Then it becomes natural and easy for the kids to use wonderful tools such as kid blog which Shelly has used in her classrooms.
Shelly discusses the benefits of using QR codes, kid friendly apps, see-saw and other great resources in the classroom. Shelly also has her own classroom website, radio and YouTube channel. I think this is really awesome. This is something I hope to use in my classroom someday. I think students would greatly benefit from using so many different technology resources in the classroom and it is also fun and very engaging for the students. I learned about so many different kid friendly apps such as book creator and iMovie. These are apps that Shelly uses in her classroom and I look froward to incorporating these into mine someday. These apps can be used for students to demonstrate their understanding. I think technology is a great way for students to show their assessments of what they have been learning.
Shelly shared so many helpful apps and tips. Check out her twitter below!
